Jazzy B is getting younger and younger, the Punjabi pop star turned 38 this week (April 1) but age is just a number for this legendary singer. After making his acting debut last year, Jazzy B is coming back with a film titled Romeo Ranjha and has performed some never seen before action stunts in the same. It was during one of these scenes when he met with a life threatening accident.

Jazzy B along with his co-star Garry Sandhu were on a jet ski on Pattaya Beach, Bangkok, when it capsized leaving both of them in the water. As the safety measures were in check, crew members went into rescuing both the actors. It left Jazzy B unconscious for almost 30 minutes, however, Garry Sandhu escaped with minor cuts.

According to Gunbir Sidhu, film producer, this incident happened in January this year but Jazzy B had requested to stay mum because he thought the news would worry his family, especially his children. Although he suffered major injuries, he wanted them to stay quiet."

He never witnessed such a sight in his life. He felt as if he left his body and saw his whole life flashing before his eyes. All this while, Jazzy B was thinking about his family and the urge to live.

Infact Jazzy B adds, "I felt a white light, probably death, probably god - pulling me from above. Honestly, for a few seconds, I felt and believed that I died"

Romeo Ranjha which was earlier titled Rambo Ranjha is Punjabi Cinema's first ever action thriller and will showcase never seen before action for Punjabi films. Dhoom action director Allan Amin has been behind the stunts and Maverick filmmaker Navaniat Singh has handled the directorial reigns.

Cine Punjab Reviews
April 11, 2014

Anurag Singh and Diljit Dosanjh have almost become a brand in Punjabi Cinema. They have together appeared in the two most loved films of Punjabi Cinema, the Jatt and Juliet series (Part 1 and 2). Now, when they have their next film titled Disco Singh and follow a similar genre (Comedy), it takes the expectations to an all new level.

So does the film work?
The answer isn't so simple. Let me put it this way, the only other Punjabi superstar actor/singer Gippy Grewal and Smeep Kang gave their first hit in the form of Carry On Jatta and followed it up with Lucky Di Unlucky Story and Bhaji In Problem, which were both good films, but could not match their first film. Similarly, Disco Singh is way below the Jatt and Juliet films in terms of entertainment, story and music. It, however, is still watchable.

Synopsis: Disco Singh is the story of a struggling singer who was named Lattu (Diljit Dosanjh) in a moment of inspiration by his parents. However, there is nothing inspirational about his life, which basically involves him performing in marriages and parties for his living. Lattu is a failed singer who runs an orchestra named Disco Singh. He dreams of only two things - success and Sweety. Sweety (Surveen Chawla) is a beautiful and successful model. Lattu keeps on praying to god to send an angel who can make his dreams come true. And sure enough, God does send someone. Bhupinder Singh aka Paaji (Manoj Pahwa) is a dreaded don who is not really an angel but Yamraj. He asks Lattu to do a job for him in return of which Lattu will get all the money that he wants. And so begins Lattu`s hilarious journey where he tries to woo Sweety while trying to save his life from Paaji. Things keep on getting more and more complicated for Lattu and how he manages to escape from all these pangas is what forms the rest of the story.

Story/Screenplay/Dialogues: Disco Singh has screenplay/story by Anurag Singh who has earlier been a writer/co-writer in all his films (Jatt and Juliet series and Yaar Anmulle) but with Disco Singh, he fails miserably. The main plot of Disco Singh is picked up from films such as Rockstar (2011) and Do Knot Disturb (2009). The first half is still enjoyable but the last 30-45 minutes are stretched and unnecessary. All the superman scenes and the entire plot revolving the newcomer Apoorva Arora are lame and were not required at all. Also as mentioned above, the anti-climax makes the film almost a boring affair. Dialogues by Amberdeep Singh and Anurag Singh are the saving grace and should be loved by one and all. Overall, Average

Acting: Diljit Dosanjh is impeccable. Yes, that's all I have to say about this finest actor of Punjabi Cinema presently. He carries the entire film on his shoulders, take out Diljit Dosanjh from Disco Singh and the film will fall flat. Be it comedy, romance, action or emotional scenes, he has proved it more than once that he is here to stay. However, if you ask me to rate this performance viz-a-viz his other films, I will still pick up Jatt and Juliet 2 and maybe give Disco Singh a second spot. Don't get me wrong, Diljit Dosanjh has put his heart and soul into this character but somehow I personally found it repetitive and an extension of Jatt and Juliet 2 character. Surveen Chawla is refreshing and has not only matured as an actress but also looks extremely beautiful in the film. B.N. Sharma surprises one and all. I have criticized his role selection over the last few movies and here he gives something that has never been attempted by any Punjabi actor on stage, atleast not in my knowledge. He plays a stereotypical feminist. His mannerism, face expressions, posture and everything made the audience split in laughter. Karamjit Anmol is good but doesn't get any great scope here. Upasna Singh is over the top though she is funny at times. Manoj Pahwa is another scene stealer and gets a lot of screen space. His accent is ditched once or twice but since he is a fine actor, everything else gets taken care of. New girl Apoorva Arora is fine but her character was not required at all. Chandan Prabhakar is wasted. Overall, Good!

Music: Music of the film is satisfactory but doesn't seem to have a long shelf life except Sweeto and Happy Birthday. Overall, Average!

Direction and Technical Aspects: Anurag Singh is the finest director of Punjabi Cinema and it has been proven more than once. Infact, Disco Singh's second most important component is him. If Anurag Singh or Diljit Dosanjh are taken out of the film, Disco Singh would have nothing left. He along with his DOP Anshul Choubey have shot Delhi in a never seen before way. Action is routine but follows the demand of the script. Everything else is great including a special mention for costumes and production design. Overall, Excellent!

Disco Singh may not be as good as Jatt and Juliet series by the same actor-director team but it still doesn't fail to entertain you. The real killer of this film is expectations (please keep it low) and ofcourse the wafer-thin writing. Watch it only and only for Diljit Dosanjh and B.N. Sharma who keep you entertained in majority of the film, especially Diljit Dosanjh, who makes you laugh, cry and also beats up goons like never before, making you feel entertained.

Rating - ★★½

Widest Release ever for a Punjabi Film
Cine Punjab News Network
April 11, 2014

Disco Singh has opened to a bumper opening across Punjab. The film has been released on 117 cinemas in East Punjab circuit (doesn't include Delhi and Rest of India) with a record number of 837 shows per day.

It has recorded fantastic collections at multiplexes and single screens. The Delhi city opening was also excellent for a Punjabi film. The first show at a premium theatre like PVR Jalandhar was around 35,000 while Bhoothnath Returns collected around 6,000. Ludhiana, Amritsar and Chandigarh was the same story as multiplexes recorded outstanding collections, The opening occupancies were 90-100% which does not happen for Hindi films but as Punjabi films have much smaller releases, the ones which have star value, hype and hit music get very high occupancies.

The film has the potential to set a record opening for Punjabi films. If it does not get the record it is certain to be the second biggest opening ever.

Distributor Munish Sahni of Omjee Cine World confirmed the news and is very optimistic about the film.

Exclusive: Reason why artists like Jazzy, Gippy, Diljit did endorsements for Badals

Cine Punjab Exclusive
April 13, 2014

On heavy demand of our readers, we have written this article to address key issues related to the recent boycott of Punjabi films/albums of a few artists who endorsed Badals.
Photos like these are doing the rounds on social media.

"Punjab is going through a turbulent time."
Our website is not a political or news website, hence we will not indulge into the above statement. We believe our website readers are well informed and intelligent to do their own research as to why we are saying this.

However, what we would like to bring forward through the platform of our website, with millions of people around the world, is the fact that Punjabi Film and Music industry is also suffering from the current POWER MACHINERY in the state.

Here's a few things we would like to bring to your knowledge about how the industry is being affected presently -
1.) Theatrical Interference -
The Leading Broadcast TV Network in Punjab, as a lot of people believe and have enough reason to do so, is being controlled by the power machinery of the state. This TV Network formed their Production House last year. Now, because of their venturing into film production and distribution, they are influencing theatrical releases of other Punjabi films.

Following are two examples of what they have done in the recent past. There are more such cases but these two are from reliable sources.-
Jatt and Juliet 2, (which was a sequel to the most successful film in Punjabi Cinema) and a loved film by itself was removed from single screens within two weeks of release despite its box office performance being great (It went on to run for several weeks at multiplexes).
This was done to accommodate a FILM produced by the Production House of this TV Network.
In fact, multiplexes were also pressurized to give this FILM more screens and . A senior manager from a leading national multiplex chain confirms that they were asked to remove Jatt and Juliet 2 so that competition could be removed.

Similarly, the release of Best Of Luck, was impacted and interfered. The said FILM produced by the TV Network was forced to run in Punjab for several weeks, hence, not giving enough single screens for Best of Luck.

2.) Impact on Release dates -
Gippy Grewal's Jatt James Bond was announced to release on April 4, 2014. Posters were out with release dates in January first week itself. But this TV Network announced their SECOND FILM to release on April 11, 2014, hence, leaving Jatt James Bond producers with no option but to post-pone their release. It will be interesting to see if Jatt James Bond's theatrical distribution will also be affected since it is releasing within a gap of two weeks of this TV Network's SECOND FILM. Similarly, this TV Network's THIRD FILM is releasing on June 27, 2014 that was booked and announced for 1984 Punjab but they had to postpone by two weeks.

3.) Promotions - This TV Network has the biggest network of broadcast media in Punjab. They are the makers and breakers basically. But is that ethical? At what cost are they doing it?
Most of the TV operations in Punjab are owned/controlled directly or indirectly by the POWER MACHINERY of Punjab, this is something that has been said and proved before, many times.
Now, in our industry, this has left a huge impact. Anyone who miffs this POWER MACHINERY gets harsh treatment from other TV channels that operate from the state. If the other TV channels are lenient, their channels face problems. The most prominent example of this is Day and Night news channel which had taken off Punjab. All thanks to this POWER MACHINERY.

4.) Film Award Ceremony - This TV Network organizes its award ceremonies, both for Film and Music. Just talking about the film awards, this TV Network awarded four awards to its FILM whereas not just critics but also common people feel there were better films and better deserving winners. An artist like Gippy Grewal who delivered four films (3 Hits) in 2013 was not given any award.
Why? Because he took a stand against this TV Network's malpractices during his Best of Luck film promotion and release phase.

Now, something that is affecting a lot of Punjabi's (read fans) around the world is why their favourite artists did endorsements for Badals!!!
Answer is simple, nobody wants to stand against them. Whoever does, he/she gets affected professionally and ofcourse morally.

We contacted well known personalities of Punjabi Cinema for this article, all of them openly told us the problems they faced but no one wants to come and speak it publicly. No one wants to face the consequences. As simple as that!

What do we need to do as FANS
Be it Jazzy B, Gippy Grewal, Diljit Dosanjh or Miss Pooja, they all acknowledge the contribution that their FANS have made to their lives. All these artists have worked very hard on their careers, most of them have had hard jobs abroad before they could afford to release their albums in the market.
We have supported them for so many years and they have worked to entertain us throughout these years but this is the time they need our support the most. Vote responsibly, not just for them but for yourself. Change the system, it is affecting everything and everyone, including these artists.

Should these artists apologize for what they did?
May be.
I say "Maybe" because they have hurt their FANS. That's it. Not for endorsing Badals. Because if they don't endorse them, they or their films/albums will suffer from the above mentioned reasons.

So, if you are a fan of these artists, you need to support them now. Support them by making a positive vote this time.

Let us know your views in the comments below. And if you agree to what we have said here, please Share/Spread this article so that more people can know what's going on in Punjab or Punjabi film industry specifically.

Bollywood Music composer Uttam Singh’s 40-year-old son, Amarjeet Singh, died due to asphyxiation on Friday night. The composer’s son was following a weight loss diet for nearly four months in a bid to lose weight. Speaking to hitlist, Uttam Singh, who is credited with composing music for hits such as 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai', 'Gadar Ek Prem Katha', 'Baghban' and 'Pinjar', said, “My son had been dieting for nearly four months as he wished to shed some kilos. On Friday evening, he decided to give in to temptation and have a burger. After eating it, he had a glass of home-made lassi. His face looked ashen and when asked about it, he said that he was okay. Soon after, he went to the bathroom.”

Singh and his wife then waited for Amarjeet to come out but he didn’t do so. “After some time, we had no option but to push open the door. When we saw him foaming at the mouth, we immediately called for an ambulance. The doctor told us that the food, that was lodged in his windpipe, had choked him. The ambulance took about 45 minutes to arrive at our residence and by the time we rushed him to Ambani hospital, there wasn’t much the doctors could do to save him,” says Singh.

The father adds that his son was a good piano player. “Amarjeet worked with me for a while. Of late, he was working with an orchestra. He weighed 98 kgs and he was starving himself in order to lose weight. We kept advising him not to do so but he wouldn’t listen to us. To add to it, he was suffering from schizophrenia for quite some time now,” says the emotional father.

Famous singer-actor Gurdas Maan feels that the Punjabi film industry lacks quality scripts and better infrastructure to compete with other regional and Bollywood films.

“Punjabi film industry lacks quality scripts and better infrastructure. They are less successful as compared to the Southern films due to the shortage of good topics,” said Maan, 57, who was in Jalandhar for the music launch of his upcoming film Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar.

When asked about the infrastructure, he said, “Hindi and Southern industry have great studios, where films are made in a grand manner but that is not true for Punjabi films and this is why they fail to do well at the box office.” The actor, who is heading back to Punjabi cinema after a gap of three years, feels Punjabi films are facing lot of struggle but he is hopeful that they will overcome the growing hurdles soon. “Punjabi films are in a stage of struggle. Why should we talk about regional films? There will come a time when Punjabi films will be competing with those of Bollywood,” he said.

Gippy Grewal is not leaving any stone unturned for the promotion of his upcoming film Jatt James Bond. Before apologizing for his Badal endorsement, he was also seen promoting his film in Mumbai, something that is not very common for Punjabi films.

Gippy Grewal performed at an Vaisakhi event called "Baisakhi Di Raat", organized by Punjabi Cultural Heritage Board, Mumbai. Gippy Grewal sang some of his popular songs and also songs from his upcoming film Jatt James Bond.

Infact, Gippy Grewal also posted a video of his performance on his official youtube channel where he is seen having a lot of fun, especially with the kids who are all over him.

The response that we have got in Mumbai makes me quite happy, says the desi rockstar Gippy Grewal, who thanked his fans for supporting him all these years.

Rohit Jugraj, the director of the film is also seen in the end of the video where Gippy Grewal introduces him as a young director, to which Rohit Jugraj replies that Young director is old now due to the post-production work.

The event was attended by Gutthi, Satinder Satti, Rajneesh Duggal, KTS Tulsi, Rana Kapoor, Sonu Sood, hockey star Sandeep Singh, NP Singh and Vikramjit Sahney.
